Filming Across the Street

Filming in Santa Monica, California USA

Living in Los Angeles means that I occasionally come across crews filming for movies and TV. This time, there was a commercial shoot for Sony Playstation going on across the street from my apartment, so I decided to take a look while trying my best to stay out of their way. A driver who is licensed to drive a massive truck sketched here (you can get the scale of it if you look at the size of the license plate) told me the boxy metal structure (about the size of porta potties) on a trailer to the left side of the sketch is a generator that can output 20,000 watts of electricity to power the lights.

It's fascinating to see all the gear and people working with them, each person talking and moving with walkie-talkies. It really reminds me that filmmaking is a collaborative effort that employs a lot of people.
