Some of us attended the live animal show to sketch some more. I learned a lot about California's state reptile, desert tortoise (I didn't even know there was such a thing!)
The Discovery Room is a new addition that was built since I last visited this museum - it has a hodgepodge of stuffed animals on display, animal fur and bones that children can touch, and tall ceiling with tall windows that capture beautiful late afternoon light of winter.
What I also discovered today: after drawing from life every single day for the last two years, drawing a stuffed animal felt...well...stuffy. I felt that I'm drawing an object rather than a living thing, and I think it shows in my work. Here is a sketch of stuffed deer and stuffed turtle with (live) child. I'd have to find a live deer and draw that to compare.

I really like the look of your dinosaur skeleton sketches as well as the whale and deer! What kind of pen do you use? The effect you get with the watercolor makes your sketches have a dream-like quality! I look forward to seeing more of your sketches :)
