This sketch was done at Santa Monica Food Truck Lot when it opened for the first time. The night was balmy, and small outdoor lights in the darkness reminded me of night markets in Asia.
While I was there, I was interviewed by the creator of food truck documentary, Masa Revolution. The video of the interview explaining why I sketch food trucks is at their site here. More information about the documentary is at their Kickstarter page.
This weekly Tuesday night event is held at a parking lot of California Heritage Museum and The Victorian restaurant. While close to a dozen food trucks offer a wide array of food, the restaurant serves drinks (including alcohol, which food trucks don't have the license to serve), and proceeds go toward museum community programming. Sounds like a win-win situation that attracts people – exactly the kind of moments I'm trying to capture in my drawing.

I don't see any ketchup on your sketch. That's not how I sketch and eat! Still, it is a nice piece, I like the color and the atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteYou captured the nice scene beautifully. And I find it interesting that you got interviewed for sketching the truck. Just shows how important sketchers are becoming.
