Sketch of the Week: Grand Californian

Here is another music-themed sketch: I went sketching for the first time with fellow artists at Downtown Disney - specifically, at the Grand Californian Hotel. The lobby is magnificent, with high timbered ceilings that recalls a wooden lodge. There was a pianist playing some music while people lounged and spoke quietly. After I finished sketching the scene with the piano and moved on to do quick drawings of people, a woman walked by and started singing the theme song from Little Mermaid in a perfect pitch. I quickly sketched her as she was singing "I wish I could be part of your world", and later combined the two sketches into one. The magic of sketching came through - it would've been very tough to photograph both scenes that happened some time apart and have them come together in such a lively fashion. It was a grand Californian moment, indeed.
