San Pedro is the southernmost edge of the City of Los Angeles, facing the water. We started the day by sketching a big sailboat that was parked in front of us.
I also did "quick sketches" of floating vessels and flying creatures as they passed by.
This is one of the busiest working harbors on the Pacific coast. How often do you get to see a battleship, a cruise ship, and a cargo ship docked next to each other?! (Granted, the battleship USS Iowa is retired from active duty and is now a maritime museum.)
A handful of our group walked over to nearby Crafted indoor market. I sketched some people who were dressed fashionably quirky. (I'm starting to get fashion inspirations from people around me, so you might see me getting back into more people sketching in the near future!)
We had teachers and art students with us in Ports O' Call, including young sketchers from Ánimo Venice High School (their blog is here). It's wonderful to see the students getting into sketching early in their artistic journey. I enjoyed the energy of the group. It was a fun, sketch-filled day!

I really like the loose lines that you use along with the gorgeous blues.
ReplyDeleteI love all the boats and the bridge from the water. How fantastic. You really are a great urban sketcher, Shiho!
