Illustration Friday: Ripple

Shiho Nakaza Illustration Friday: Ripple
It's been a while since I've participated in Illustration Friday, and this week's topic, "Ripple", along with the story behind it, encouraged me to play around with watercolors again. This is a small artist's trading card (sketchcard) done entirely in watercolor measuring approximately 2.5 x 3.5 inches, on archival Fabriano Medioevalis 208 S watercolor paper - I placed the painting on a black background so you can see the deckled edges.

Now, here is the story behind this topic:
The Ripple blog at http://ripplesketches.blogspot.com/ was started by Kelly Light on the 45th day of the Deepwater Horizon Catastrophe to benefit animal rescue efforts. You can purchase a sketchcard for $10.00 if you donate directly to The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies or The International Bird Rescue Research Center and follow the instructions at the Ripple blog. Every penny is donated. As Kelly states, "Our small actions together will ripple outward."
“It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.”
- Robert Francis Kennedy
