Sketch of the Week: Sketchcrawl at The Farmer's Market/The Grove

For 35th Worldwide Sketchcrawl, Los Angeles group gathered at the Farmers Market and the Grove. This is a great spot for sketching because of a mix of building styles and history (Farmers Market grew out of farmers gathering to sell their wares in 1934, while the Grove is a planned development built in 2002 to provide an outdoor shopping destination) - in fact, this is the third time L.A. Sketchcrawl group met here. (Here are my previous sketches from the Grove, if you're curious.)

People-watching here is an entertaining experience - but I got too distracted. It was crowded with parents and their kids, and in the mix were "beautiful people" who looked like they just stepped out of fashion magazines (How can these women walk with those killer platform stilettos?) European tourists (Why would they want to visit a place that mimics European cities?) and stylish couples walking their dogs (That dog just pooped in the middle of the pavement!)

There were so many things to observe that I got overwhelmed, so I don't think I had the best sketching day. Coloring some artwork at home made them look a little better. All in all, I still enjoyed chatting with other artists, eating tacos at LoterĂa Grill, basking in the sun, and gawking at the passersby ("What did that big-haired lady with bright blue dress and big green bag buy?")
