I enjoyed riding my bicycle during CicLAvia event once again. Being on a bike away from cars allows my city to be seen up close in a fresh light. The car-free area was on Wilshire Boulevard with its iconic and historic buildings this time, and it was a shorter and less crowded route than the last time that I sketched this event.
It was amazing to see Art Deco details of Bullocks Wilshire building without the sound of cars roaring by.
After I pushed ahead to the western edge of the route, I was greeted by a series of Oscar statues on the red carpet. They were in the middle of the street in front of the old May Co. building to announce the relocation of Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in a few years. I enjoyed seeing us locals acting like tourists and posing for the photos more than looking at the actual statues.
