Sketch of the Week: CicLAvia through Wilshire Blvd.

This past Sunday was CicLAvia, when Wilshire Blvd. between downtown Los Angeles and Museum Row were closed to cars and open to everybody else. I took a few minutes to sketch before meeting up with friends at the eastern edge of the route, near One Wilshire. Tall buildings were casting very large shadows with harsh contrast from the brightly-lit day, so my photos did not come out well, and I struggled to paint this sketch afterwards. I hope some of the spirit of the event - looking ahead to enjoy the open road on bicycles - came through in this sketch.
