After the excitement of Urban Sketching Symposium ended, I had half a day to explore downtown Portland on my own, so I decided to sketch some landmarks that I've missed during the Symposium.
Here is Ira Keller Fountain, where water cascades down large sculptural slabs of stone. It creates a nice urban oasis. A woman sat on one of the drier slabs and posed for a photo with her friend, so I've included her in the sketch.
This is the wall of Chinese Garden - I am fascinated by how the summer light was casting crisp shadow on the white building.
I was walking around and taking a trolley, so I enjoyed taking the time to stop and sketch. I even spotted a Benson Bubbler (which has an interesting history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benson_Bubblers).
The fun I had and energy I gained from sketching at the Symposium stayed with me - hope I can continue to nurture this spirit back home!
