I like drawing musicians while they perform. This one was done at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica. The acoustics were great but it was dark and I was standing in the back with people in front of me, so I had to draw very quickly without really knowing where I was putting down the lines. This was truly a "blind sketch", and I like how it turned out.
Kinda like dancing in the dark, eh Shiho? Geez, McCabes guitar shop is still alive and kicking? I used to frequent McCabes to get an intimate sampling of interesting musicians. Joe Pass, Roger McGuinn, Ry Cooder, and John Fahey to name a few.
ReplyDeleteI used to write ideas down in a small sketchbook along side my bed. My better ideas always came in the dark and turning on the lights was not an option. You should have seen what I saw by the light of the day, ha! Yours are much better!
See ya at the Facebook sketchpad, ha!
Yup, McCabes is still alive and kicking - I actually didn't know they hosted many well-known musicians until recently. See you and your art around the 'net, Ben!
ReplyDeleteYep, I guess that's as good as it can get... on the 'net!
