Sketch of the Week: Staring at the Sea and Masterpieces

I went to Pepperdine University in Malibu, which has a large campus on rolling hills that overlook Pacific Ocean. I couldn't resist sketching the expanse of sea and the sky beyond the courtyard.

The reason I went there was to see the exhibit of Illustrating Modern Life: The Golden Age of American Illustration from the Kelly Collection. If you're in Los Angeles area and are interested in art, do check it out before it closes on March 31! It was so amazing and inspirational to see the paintings by my illustration heroes such as Maxfield Parrish, J.C. Leyendecker, and Norman Rockwell. This piece by Rockwell is titled Dreaming of Adventure, and he seems to stare out into the ocean, too, like I did.
