People are engrossed in their smartphones (myself included). Here's a twist on this now-familiar sight: a man was sitting around a cafe table with his son and a bunch of his adult friends. He was smiling, talking, and gesturing excitedly - while holding his smartphone and looking into it the entire time, not making eye contact with anyone else. I was sitting behind a glass window, so I couldn't hear a word - what could be inside the smartphone? His friends seemed pleased and attentive (while pulling out their own smartphones from time to time), so I suppose all is well - virtual and real world of socializing is mashed together more and more every year.
